Bangladesh beat Bhutan by 8-1 goals

SAFF U-17 Women's Championship

Trishna Rani and Thuinuye Marma’s double goals started Bangladesh’s mission of the SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship by beating Bhutan. Golam Robbani Choton’s disciples won 8-1 against Bhutan at the Bir Sreshtho Shaheed Sipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka on Monday (March 20).

Bangladesh was leading 4-0 in the first half of the match. The hosts conceded one goal against four more in the second half.

Bangladesh took the lead in the 16th minute of the match with Trishna Rani’s goal. She scored again in the 28th minute to double the gap (2-0). In the 35th minute, Bangladesh took a 3-0 lead when Sultana Akhtar’s spectacular header hit the target. In the 42nd minute, Surbhi Akhand Preeti scored a slightly deflected shot to make it 4-0.

After the break, coach Chotan replaced Preeti with Thuinu Marma in the 60th minute of the match. This forward scored from the first attack (5-0). In the next minute, another substitute, Munni Akhter, got the ball from Bhutan’s defense and took the gap to 6-0. Priya Ghali scored a goal for Bhutan in the 64th minute (6-1).

Thuinu Marma (7-1) scored for the second time with a spectacular header after Sagarika’s cross bounced off the bar in the 77th minute. In the 85th minute, Munni’s shot failed to be caught by the Bhutanese goalkeeper, and Sagarika sent the return ball into the net (8-1).

Bangladesh will face Russia on March 22. Bhutan will face Nepal on the same day. India, Nepal, Bhutan and Russia under-17 women’s football teams are participating in this five-nation tournament apart from the hosts Bangladesh. In this league-style tournament, the team with the highest points will win the title.
