Barcelona’s midfielder Sergi Roberto renewed his contract by a year until 2024.
In a statement from Barcelona, the club’s previous contract with Roberto would have expired in June this year.
The 31-year-old is one of Barca’s captains, making his debut in November 2010 after joining the club’s youth academy in 2006.
Sergi Roberto started his career as a central midfielder but has played in various positions in 339 matches for the Catalan giants.
However, he has been seen playing more as a right-back. Sergi Roberto’s career highlight was the 6-1 win over PSG in the Champions League in 2017.
Coach Jarvi Hernandez, while responding to fans’ criticism of Sergi Roberto recently, said, ‘The kind of criticism that has been made about Sergi is not desirable at all. He always performed and never complained. He has a different personality. There are often criticisms about him that I really don’t understand.’
