Injured Son’s WC in doubt

Tottenham’s South Korean star striker Son Haeang-min has to sit on the surgery table due to an injury to the side of his left eye.

Tottenham confirmed such information in a statement.

And that’s why there is concern about the star striker’s performance in the World Cup (WC).

Son suffered a facial injury in the first half of Tuesday’s 2-1 Champions League group stage win over Marseille and was forced off the field.

Tottenham’s statement said Son will be under close observation by the club’s medical staff following the surgery and an update on his injury will be provided in due course.

The Premier League club has not given any indication of his possible return to the field.

However, there are concerns about his fitness in the first match of South Korea’s World Cup against Uruguay on November 24.

This captain of the national team is an icon player of his home country. The whole country is looking at him in the World Cup.

The 30-year-old Son has scored 35 goals in 106 international matches. His performance at the 2018 Asian Games saw South Korea win the gold medal.

Portugal and Ghana are South Korea’s other opponents in Group H of the Qatar World Cup. Apart from the national team, Son is going to miss several matches in club football due to injury.

He will not be in the important Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday.

He will also miss the League Cup match against Nottingham Forest and Leeds in the league before the World Cup.
